Insurance and Payments
At Spinak Medical Eye Center, we understand that you need to know if insurance will cover your visit or procedures.
We’ll work with you to get the most coverage possible under the various plans. Please understand however that insurance plans change and we are not always advised of these changes.
We will make available the amount or estimated amount of your bill upon request. Our fee schedule is also available upon written request.
"We are contracted with Medicare, most commercial medical insurances and VSP and Spectera vision plans. Due to a large number of different plans and policies within one insurance company - we suggest contacting your insurance company to confirm that we are in-network with your specific policy.
Please note that LASIK® is considered an elective procedure and is not covered by insurance.
Routine Versus Medical Eye Exam Coverage
Routine Eye Exam
-
An eye examination that occurs without any medical eye problem(s) or complaints.
-
Eyes examined for any needed correction and any potential indicators of eye disease.
-
Generally these exams are not covered by insurance. The fee for a non-covered routine eye exam is $250.
Medical Eye Exam
-
An examination, treatment, and management of a medical eye condition or disease. Some examples include but are not limited to: cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, dry eye, ocular headaches, and many other potentially sight-threatening diseases or injuries.
-
These exams are treated like any other medical exam and will be processed by your insurance carrier. The way your eye exam is submitted to your insurance will depend not only upon what you tell your doctor/technician, but also what the doctor finds upon examination.
General Eye Exam Information
-
Please note that medical plans/insurance do not cover routine eye care.
-
Preventative care does not include medically related complaints or medical tests.
-
If you are here for a Preventative Visit – and you have any medical issues – they will be addressed in a subsequent visit.
-
It is important to note that both routine and medical exams at The Spinak Medical Eye Center involve a refraction. A refraction is the process of determining a person’s prescription for eyeglasses or contacts. Our office fee for refraction is $65 in addition to the office visit copay and/or deductible. This is due at the time services are rendered
Financing
For non-covered procedures, you may qualify for Care Credit, which is a financing plan that often offers 0% interest when the amount charged is paid off within a specific time period. A minimum charge of $200 is required. CareCredit can be used for eye exams, glasses, LASIK®, cataract surgery, and cosmetic eye procedures.
